The US Department of Labor's Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) for July, released on the 4th, showed a decrease in job openings by 237,000 to 7.673 million, the lowest level in three and a half years. However, the slowdown in the labor market is orderly, and it is not considered to be a decline significant enough for the Federal Reserve (FRB) to consider a 0.50% interest rate cut at this month's meeting.
The economist's estimate was 8.1 million cases.
The June figure was revised downward from 7.91 million cases to 8.184 million cases in the previous announcement.
The number of new hires increased by 273,000 to 5.521 million. There was an increase of 156,000 cases in lodging and food services, but a decrease of 8,000 cases in the federal government. The hiring rate increased from 3.3% in June to 3.5%.
