The US Department of Commerce confirmed on Friday that the agreement with TSMC has been finalized. In April, the American government already announced these plans with TSMC, but at that time it was still a provisional agreement. Under the agreement, TSMC will receive $6.6 billion in direct funding from the U.S. government. The company can also take out $5 billion in cheap loans from the government.
The subsidy agreements with TSMC have now been FINALIZED, just before Donald Trump starts his second term as President of the United States. Trump was previously critical of the Chips and Science Act, which made the underlying subsidy possible. According to him, high import tariffs on chips from abroad are sufficient incentive for chip makers to build factories in the US .
