【DOOMER Generation】 is a term used to refer to young people in the United States who are despairing and exhausted about the future. These young people feel isolated from society due to the recession, unemployment, and poverty. They have given up on love, marriage, and relationships, and they are pessimistic and desperate about their future.
Environmental issues, natural disasters, population explosion, war and terrorism, nuclear issues, global pandemics, etc., are all characteristics of the DOOMER Generation, who are pessimistic and feel despair about the future of humanity and even harbor apocalyptic thoughts.
【Tang Ping Tribe】 also known as the laid-back tribe, in China, even highly educated individuals are unable to find good job opportunities. These young people have become disillusioned with a society that does not reward their efforts, and they choose to live a lifestyle that eschews consumption, marriage, and romantic relationships.
In China, where large-scale demonstrations and posts on social media are suppressed, refraining from active consumer activities or not desiring to engage in them has become a form of protest. Many individuals say, "I only work the minimum necessary and then lie down in protest."
※These ways of life are not limited to the United States and China, they are also becoming apparent among the youth in present-day Japan. They are often referred to as the "Satori Generation." As a 40-year-old, I can somewhat understand the way of life and values of the younger generation.
Even among people of the same generation, there are individuals who don't need friends, don't want to get married, don't engage in romantic relationships, don't own cars, don't build houses, aren't interested in career advancement, don't want to become important figures, and so on.
I myself also partially empathize with the values and way of life of this younger generation. I want money too, but I don't really desire to climb the corporate ladder or work hard for it. I have no interest in fashion, I'm fine as long as I can drive a car, and I don't need many friends.
The only difference is that I am not pessimistic about my own future or the future of humanity, nor do I feel a sense of despair. I want to live a happy, healthy, and free life with my beloved family in an ideal home, and I am willing to make efforts for that. That is my value system.
Properly fearing and properly preparing, most things in this world can be managed somehow. There are surprisingly few things that cannot be dealt with. If there is something that cannot be controlled no matter how much you struggle, there is no need to be overly pessimistic. Despair is unnecessary.
