Tourism is overwhelming, domestic tourists increased 16.1% at the end of the season

Although the cost of living is rising, the Chinese people's willingness to travel and spend has not weakened at all.
The Bureau of Statistics released tourism data today. In the last quarter of last year, China's domestic visitors increased by 16.1% year-on-year to 54.3 million; while tourist spending recorded RM23.8 billion, an increase of 29.5% year-on-year.
Dato' Sri Mohd Uzr, chief statistician of the Bureau of Statistics, pointed out that the number of domestic tourists in China reached 2010.9 million last year, an increase of 22.9% year-on-year.
Meanwhile, domestic tourist spending surged 32.5% last year to RM84.9 billion.
“However, the number of domestic visitors and consumption last year was still below the pre-pandemic level in 2019, with differences of 11.8% and 17.7%, respectively.”
Looking at each category, the theme park revenue index grew by 49.2% year-on-year, followed by domestic airport arrivals (up 1.7%), road traffic (up 10.9%), and retail vehicle fuel (up 3.4%).
At the same time, the accommodation income index also grew by 12.5% year-on-year. Among them, the occupancy rate of five-star hotels increased by 2.1%, followed by four-star (up 0.7%) and three-star (up 14.8%). Hotel occupancy rates in mountainous areas and towns grew by 2.2% and 2.6%, respectively, by location.
