Toyota's global sales in February decreased by 7%.

Toyota Motor's global sales volume in February dropped by 7% year-on-year, affected by a significant decrease in China due to the Chinese New Year holidays and a slump in Japan following safety test scandals in the compact car division.
Sales in China, the world's largest automobile market, decreased by 36%. Last year it was in January, but this year there was a one-week Chinese New Year holiday in February.
The intense price competition in China's automobile market has affected Toyota's sales volume, as stated by the company, being influenced by fierce competition.
However, according to data from the automobile industry group, the sales decline in China for January and February combined is quite mild at 0.7%, still falling short of the overall 6.4% increase in passenger vehicle sales.
Toyota's sales in the United States increased by 16% in February, with a 14% increase in European sales, but sales in Japan dropped by one-third. Despite Daihatsu brand not being included in Toyota's global sales volume, production suspension by Daihatsu, which also produces some Toyota branded vehicles, and reputational damage from scandals have impacted domestic sales.
The compact car division admitted to manipulating crash safety test results nearly a year ago.
Toyota's sales volume in Indonesia and Thailand also saw double-digit declines.
Nearly half of the vehicles sold by the world's largest auto manufacturer in February were gasoline-electric hybrid cars.
Global sales figures consist of cars sold under the Toyota brand and the luxury car brand Lexus. Daihatsu's global sales in February decreased by 66%.
Toyota's global production in February decreased by 2.6% to 737,178 units.
