The transition team for President-elect Trump's administration is finalizing an energy policy package to be announced within the first few days after taking office. According to two sources familiar with the plan, the package is expected to include new liquefied natural gas (LNG) export projects and an expansion of oil drilling off the U.S. coast and federal government-owned lands.
While largely reflecting the election promises, by announcing it as early as on the first day of inauguration, it can impress that petroleum and gas production will become a key pillar of the initial policies alongside immigration issues.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Mr. Trump intends to partially repeal major climate change-related laws and regulations enacted under the Biden administration, such as tax deductions for electric vehicles and gradual phasing out of coal and natural gas, aiming for new clean power plant standards.
The immediate priority is to swiftly resume the new LNG export permits that Mr. Biden suspended and promptly address pending cases. It also aims to expedite drilling permits on federal government-owned land, swiftly resume the 5-year drilling plan along the U.S. coast, including expanding lease sales.
