TSMC and Samsung Electronics consider building semiconductor factory in UAE
[23rd Reuters] - Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC) (2330.TW), opens new tab and South Korea's Samsung Electronics (005930.KS), opens new tab, is discussing the possibility of building a semiconductor factory in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) within the next few years. The US paper Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on the 22nd as a story by multiple stakeholders.
According to that, TSMC executives recently visited the UAE and discussed the construction of complex facilities comparable to the company's advanced facilities in Taiwan.
Samsung Electronics is also considering a large-scale semiconductor production business locally, and it is said that executives recently visited the UAE to discuss it.
It is said that there is a possibility that the scale of the project will exceed 100 billion dollars, but discussions are in the early stages, and there is a possibility that they will face obstacles such as technical aspects and will not be realized.
TSMC stated in a statement dated 23rd that “we are always positive about constructive discussions on how to promote the development of the semiconductor industry, but we continue to focus on existing global expansion projects, and there are currently no new investment plans to be announced.”
