The Biden administration plans to announce new export restrictions on China soon, according to an email sent to members by the US Chamber of Commerce.
According to an email confirmed by Reuters on the 22nd, up to 200 Chinese semiconductor companies will be added to the trade restriction list under the new regulations, prohibiting most US suppliers from shipping products to the added companies. The Department of Commerce plans to announce the new regulations before Thanksgiving on the 28th.
If the email content is correct, as the start of President Trump's second term in January approaches, the Biden administration is progressing with plans to further regulate China's access to semiconductors.
The Biden administration is also planning to announce new regulations next month restricting the export of high-bandwidth memory to China as part of broader artificial intelligence (AI) measures.
The Chamber of Commerce and the Department of Commerce have not responded to requests for comments.
