The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced on the 7th that it has started an investigation of 2.6 million vehicles in the USA following reports of collision accidents related to Tesla, a major electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer's remote control feature. There have been 4 reported cases where the remote control system failed to detect pillars or parked cars during operation, leading to collision accidents. Preliminary investigation is ongoing. This system allows vehicles to be moved remotely using a smartphone app and was introduced in September last year. NHTSA must conduct engineering analysis to proceed with requesting a recall (collection or free repair). The investigation targets Model S and Model X equipped with fully automatic driving assistance systems from 2016 to 2025, Model 3 from 2017 to 2025, and Model Y from 2020 to 2025.
