US CB consumer confidence rises to 100.3 in July labor market perception worsens

July 31, 2024 5:57 AM GMT+9 (some excerpts)
The US Consumer Confidence Index for July announced by the Conference Board (CB) on the 30th was 100.3, up from 97.8 of the previous month (revised downward from 1000.4 announced last time).
Although it was higher than the economists' forecast of 99.7, it remained within the narrow range of the past two years, reflecting concerns surrounding price increases.
Conference Board chief economist Dana Peterson said, “Consumer views on the labor market are relatively optimistic, but in addition to high prices and interest rates, future uncertainty continues to be a cause of concern. There is a big possibility that these things won't improve until next year,” he said.
