The US Department of Justice informed a federal judge that they are considering recommending Google to sell part of its business to address the harms of monopolizing the online search market under Alphabet Inc.
If realized, it would be a historic case of corporate breakup based on antitrust laws.
According to the document submitted to the court on the 8th, officials from the Department of Justice's antitrust division recognized that Judge Amit Mehta of the Federal District Court for the District of Columbia could also order Google to provide access to basic data used for search results and artificial intelligence (AI) product development.
