US establishes military headquarters in Japan
The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday that America plans to establish a new military command center in Japan to strengthen security ties with Asian allies or to respond quickly in the event of a crisis in Taiwan or the Korean Peninsula.
This command, headed by a lieutenant general, coordinates military operations, plans joint exercises, and takes part in defense in the event of hostilities.
As a result of this move, America's combat capability was placed under a command center within Japanese territory for the first time, and 54,000 military personnel in Japan were delayed by 19 hours and no longer needed to wait for instructions from Hawaii.
