On the 10th, the US Department of Commerce announced the final decision to provide $6.165 billion in subsidies to the semiconductor giant Micron Technology Inc.
Based on the Semiconductor Subsidy Act established in 2022, this subsidy supports Micron's long-term plan to invest around $100 billion in Upstate New York and $25 billion in Western Idaho, the largest under the law.
The subsidy amount remains the same as the announcement in April of this year, with $4.6 billion allocated to facilities in New York and $1.5 billion to Idaho. Micron plans to establish a DRAM (Dynamic Random-Access Memory) manufacturing facility covering around 1,400 acres in central New York State.
According to the Department, Micron's investment is expected to create approximately 20,000 jobs, and the USA's share in advanced memory semiconductor manufacturing is forecasted to expand from the current less than 2% to around 10% by 2035.
In addition, the Department of Commerce announced a provisional agreement to provide up to $275 million in subsidies for the expansion and modernization of Micron's factory in Eastern Virginia.
