US imports from China in 2023 amounted to $448B.

That's 12% of total imports of $3.83T in 2023.

But the real value of those imports to the U.S. economy is far larger.

Chinese imports provide affordable cost of manufactured goods to tends of thousands of US businesses, including $Walmart (WMT.US)$ $Target (TGT.US)$ $Costco (COST.US)$ and countless of SMEs.

They sell Chinese made goods with their own design and marketing apparatus to the huge US consumer market.

It's not far-fetched to say that 20% of the $7.2 trillion US retail industry depends on Chinese-made goods.

It wasn't too far ago that 30% of US retailers' cost of goods came directly from China. I doubt that figure has declined significantly since 2018.

Tariffs hurt American businesses and consumers more than they do China.
