Weekly Syrup: Chinese stocks are still on the highway? To where?

Weekly Syrup: Chinese stocks are still on the highway? To where?
Hey mooers!
Middle East tensions escalated as Iran fired hundreds of missiles at Israel after Hezbollah commander Hassan Nasrallah was killed. This geopolitical strife led U.S. stocks to drop, and the $CBOE Volatility S&P 500 Index (.VIX.US)$ spiked by over 15%, signaling increased investor fear. Consequently, capital shifted to the bond market, pushing yields on 10- and 30-year Treasuries to their lowest in more than a week.
Amid these tensions, oil prices soared due to concerns about disruptions to Iran's oil supplies, with West Texas Intermediate climbing over 5% to nearly $75 per barrel, and Brent increasing more than 3% to $78.56 per barrel. Read more>>
But before other recaps, let's look at something different:
What's Moo'ed?
"What's Moo'ed" is a space that captures fun, newsworthy, jaw-dropping and sometimes confusing (lmao) news clips for mooers so that you know this is a colorful world (or a weird and speechless one).
1. Ewww, it's healthy!
UK surgeon and TikTok star Dr. Karan Raj has discussed a new wellness trend on the platform: okra slime water. Dubbed "nature's lube," this simple mix of okra and water is tough to drink but might benefit digestive health. In my opinion, whoever drinks it does have some guts!

2. Mother's choice
A man found an old painting in his house that was a hidden Pablo Picasso, valued at about $6.6 million, which had been stashed away for years because his mother disliked it. Now it's time for a bigger game: Ask your mother what stocks she dislikes. Buy and hold!

3. A new self-hatred?
A woman named Marijuana Pepsi since birth insists on keeping her name, despite not using cannabis or consuming soft drinks and alcohol. I guess she doesn't drink soft drinks because she has never tried Coca-Cola.

Okay, let's dive back to the syrup:
Chinese stocks have experienced a significant rally since late September, driven by various economic and market support initiatives that have enhanced investor sentiment. The $Hang Seng China Enterprises Index (800100.HK)$, featuring Chinese firms listed in Hong Kong, has jumped over 35% in the last month, leading over 90 global equity indices tracked by Bloomberg. $iShares MSCI China ETF (MCHI.US)$ also saw a 24% increase in September, its biggest monthly rise since November 2022. Investors can purchase shares of U.S.-listed Chinese firms or opt for ETFs like $KraneShares CSI China Internet ETF (KWEB.US)$, $Invesco China Technology ETF (CQQQ.US)$, $iShares China Large-Cap ETF (FXI.US)$, and $Roundhill China Dragons ETF (DRAG.US)$. For example, $Roundhill China Dragons ETF (DRAG.US)$ targets top Chinese tech companies such as Tencent, Pinduoduo, Alibaba, and others, offering a straightforward method to invest in prominent Chinese tech businesses.

This is our 20th Weekly Syrup. We have gone this far!
This column shines and flourish because of all you wonderful mooers! Big heart and big thanks to y'all!!!
Now let's make a brief recap:
1. Most liked & most commented (they both received 43 likes and 16 comments!)
2. Mooers' great comments
The economic stimulus policy will certainly help in the short term to boost the Chinese stock market. I remain skeptical though on whether the rally is sustainable and whether it will have any lasting effect on the economy.
In Nvidia we trust, I do believe that Nvidia will continue to impress us with their earnings report however price action can go either way
Gold will continue to be a valuable resource for mending broken hearts
And finally it is September soon so wake me up when the rate cuts or when September ends either one will do
inflation will be back soon big time - brace for oil price to surge to the moon.
The recent surge in Chinese stocks, driven by government stimulus and rate cuts, is a good sign of market recovery and investor confidence. It's exciting to see such positive momentum! Hopefully, the momentum lasts and signals a broader economic recovery

  • CNNT : I hastily started my stock market journey and excitedly rushed to fill up my portfolio in June 2024.. That came back to bite me big time real soon (mostly due to entering at the wrong price point).

Now that we can trade HK & A Shares, I want to take it slow to learn first. I'll probably start with ETF and start paying attention to relevant  information.

  • Antonio Sze-To : It totally depends on Chinese government whether they want to continue the stimulus policy.

I guess if US is continuing to cut rates, Chinese is likely to continue the stimulus policy, to attract international capital back to China.
