During the Bitcoin halving, the block reward is halved, meaning that miners receive 50% fewer new Bitcoins for their mining efforts. In the early days of Bitcoin, the block reward started at 50 Bitcoins, and after the first halving in 2012, it was reduced to 25 Bitcoins. The most recent halving took place in 2020, reducing the reward to 6.25 Bitcoins per block. The next halving, scheduled for 2024, will further decrease the block reward down to 3.125 BTC [
