the vagueness of the rule basically means they can set the bands wherever they want. no clear rule what the basis is. easy to manipulate, hard to prove.

The price band is hardly arbitrary. The mathematical breakdown is explained extremely clearly: “This price band is set at a percentage level above and below the average price of the stock over the immediately preceding five-minute trading period.”
Anyway, believe what you will. I’m just putting the information out there. Perhaps it’s much easier to believe that there’s a building employing people to push big red halt buttons for every single volatile stock on the open market.
