Attention is being drawn to the destination and allocation of huge subsidies from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry to semiconductor-related companies. On the 29th, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported that the ministry would subsidize capital investment of Micron Technology's Hiroshima Plant (Higashihiroshima-shi, Hiroshima-ken), a major US semiconductor memory company. The ministry has set a target of increasing domestic semiconductor sales (including semiconductors produced domestically by overseas manufacturers, manufacturing equipment, and component materials) to 15 trillion yen in 2030, which is 3 times the current level, and plans to invest 2 trillion yen in subsidies for semiconductor-related investments over 2 years.
Up to now, a maximum of 476 billion yen for the Kumamoto Plant of Taiwan Integrated Circuit Manufacturing (TSMC) $Toyota Motor (7203.JP)$Ya $Nippon Telegraph & Telephone (9432.JP)$ $Sony Group (6758.JP)$It has become clear that 330 billion yen will be subsidized to the new Lapidas plant established by 8 Japanese companies, etc., and 92.9 billion yen will be subsidized to the Yokkaichi Plant (Mie Prefecture) where KIOXIA and US Western Digital collaborate.
It also supports stable supply in the materials and parts field, which Japan excels at. SUMCO, a major silicon wafer company, will subsidize up to 75 billion yen for a factory newly established in Saga Prefecture. We will subsidize 40.5 billion yen for package substrates, and a total of 20 billion yen for 7 companies such as JFE Steel and Iwatani Sangyo, which handle semiconductor raw materials.
