Why I think NVDA is safer than 2020 TSLA.
Jensen and Elon act and lead companies very differently. Their stocks even perform differently during their moments of hype. I had ChatGPT 4o help me learn the causes of different crashes and spikes of Tesla from 2020 to 2022. I also did some math, correct me if I'm wrong:
Spikes:
+115% Nov 13 2020 to Jan 8th 2021: Nov 13th, Tesla announced it will soon be added to S&P 500. It was added Dec 21.
+56% Oct 8th to Nov 5th 2021: Oct 8th, Tesla announces it will release earnings soon, and the world expects good earnings, Tesla delivers good earnings Oct 20th.
Crashes:
Jan 8th 2021: self-driving Tesla brakes for no reason in the middle of the road and causes a pile-up. Stock begins to decline.
Feb 19: Elon Musk tweeted that Tesla bought $1.5 billion of bitcoin, stock dropped 24%.
Nov 5th: Elon did a twitter poll asking if he should sell 10% of his shares; stock dropped 16%.
Jan 14, 2022: Fed rate hikes + supply chain issues + CEO selling shares (announced ahead of time) + overvaluation of stock + profit taking = 35% drop over a month.
Sept 16: competition, war, and more rate hikes = 33% drop.
Dec 2: Production issues, China price cuts, and public anticipation of more rate hikes = negative sentiment toward fast growing stocks = 42% drop.
Similarities?
So far, Jensen sold a tiiiny bit of shares, Fed was being difficult, but recently gave good news, stock is overvalued, and issues with selling in china and middle east.
BUT....
CEO is more professional, and that improves public sentiment. Nvidia's product is far easier to maintain quality control, and should have at least 6-12 months left of having the world's best chips.
