Coming from a techie point of view, this kind of error could not have happened so easily. Typically all software vendors who are ISO27001 have strict process and requirements to follow. After any patch that has been developed, it would need to undergo testing within a Dev environment before rolling out to Staging and then Production to push out to customers.
The Root cause of the fault patch was that it was reading an invalid memory region, which in any case should be detected easily in any test and would 100% fail. So how come this was not catch and skipped?
My sentiments are that there is a big conspiracy behind this incident, nevertheless, this incident has severely damage CRWD reputation.. especially not long ago, they posted some threats reports from APT40 group, a China state sponsored cyber threat group.. end up they crashed all their customer’s Windows System.
CEOs and Executives aren’t forgiving when it comes to a point that it affects their business and revenue. Govt will not be forgiving when such situations can cause life and death situations, when medical devices cant be used.. i have worked in these industries before and based on experience, they would demand all these agents to be uninstalled.. this will lead to less license count and impact CRWD revenue. Now it seems to these executives is that the risk of an outage by CRWD is much higher than a real deal cyberattack..
Anyway, i am not here to here to influence anyone or giving any financial advice.. it will take months for this fiasco to settle down..
