Xiaomi said why YU7 crossover will start sales in China in mid 2025

Xiaomi officials answered why the YU7 electric crossover will start sales in China in Jun or Jul 2025. The company's representatives said they applied for the sales license early to test the car without heavy camouflage. Despite the car being legally ready for market entry, it needs at least six more months to start sales.
The Xiaomi YU7 (codenamed Xiaomi MX11) appeared in the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) catalog on Dec 9. Every mass-produced car needs to finish this procedure to get a sales license. So, getting into the MIIT catalog often means the car will launch in one or two months. This is why lots of Chinese automotive enthusiasts assumed the Xiaomi YU7 would enter the domestic market early next year.

However, Xiaomi said their second model will enter the domestic market in Jun or Jul 2025. Later, the company's representatives shared the official letter explaining why the YU7 crossover will launch in mid-2025, despite it being legally ready to do so.
Xiaomi officials expect the YU7 electric crossover to start sales in China in Jun or July 2025. So, the car still needs at least six more months to enter the market. The company's representatives said the MIIT listing would allow them to remove the heavy camouflage from the car to test the car's NVH, energy consumption, and comprehensive durability.
It is also important that Xiaomi needs to finish the construction of the second-phase car factory to start producing the YU7, as the current plant has no idle production capacity. So, the Xiaomi F2 plant will be finished in Jun or Jul 2025. Bearing in mind that the construction of this production facility started in early Aug of this year, Xiaomi aims to finish the construction in 10 to 11 months. It is a remarkable speed since the Xiaomi F1 plant was finished in 15 months.
We will remind you that the Xiaomi F2 plant covers 531,000 square metres. It sits next to the first-phase factory. In Oct 2024, Xiaomi's second-phase car factory's steel structure was completed.
Xiaomi officials stated that the name of their second model is pronounced as Y-U-7, as in the English alphabet. We will remind you that Chinese people call Xiaomi’s first model SU7 “Su Qi.” The carmaker doesn’t share the meaning of the YU7 name. For clarity, the letters in the SU7 sedan name mean “Speed Ultra.” So, the letter “U” in the YU7 name probably means “Ultra.” However, there are a few words starting with “Y.” And none of them fits the logic of car naming.
The Xiaomi YU7 is an all-electric crossover with dimensions of 4999/1996/1600 mm and a wheelbase of 3000 mm. Inside, it has five seats. The car’s curb weight is 2,405 kg. The top-trim Xiaomi YU7 packs dual-motor 4WD with a combined power of 681 hp. Its top speed reaches 253 km/h. A ternary NMC battery from CATL powers electric motors. However, its capacity has yet to be revealed.
CarNewsChina expects the price to be between 250,000 and 350,000 yuan (34k and 48k USD). Tesla Model Y SUV starts at 249,900 yuan (34k USD) in China. According to China EV DataTracker, Xiaomi delivered 112,516 EVs in China in 2024 (March – November), with 21,955 units in November.
