終盤のニューヨーク外為市場では、ドルが対円で大きく下落したほか、他の通貨に対しても軟調となった。市場ではこの日発表された経済指標を消化しつつ、米連邦準備理事会（ＦＲＢ）の利下げ意欲を見極めようとする動きが広がった。
米国の住宅指標もドルへの圧力となった。
米商務省が１６日に発表した７月の一戸建て住宅の着工件数（季節調整済み）は年率換算で前月比１４．１％減の８５万１０００件と、５カ月連続で減少した。
主要通貨に対するドル指数は０．４８％安の１０２．５４となった。
ドルは対円で１．０４％下落し、１４７．７５円。前日の取引では１４９．４０円と２週間ぶりの高値を付けていた。
