Massive selling of Call options for NVIDIA stock, price falls from all-time high.January 8, 2025 6:20 AM JST

Volume of Call options is 1.5 times the daily average, actively selling for February expiration.
As NVIDIA, a leading semiconductor company for Artificial Intelligence (AI), saw its stock price hit a record high since November last year before faltering, investors sold a large amount of Call options (rights to buy) for the company's shares on the 7th.
Shortly after trading began, Call options expiring on January 17 (with a strike price of $140) of around 0.2 million contracts, and Call options expiring on February 21 (ranging from $159 to $165) were traded in quantities of 0.6 million to 0.7 million contracts. According to Chris Murphy, co-head of derivative strategy at Susquehanna International Group, most of the Call options were sold.
These sales seem to have reversed the trend of a significant increase in buying Call options in the days leading up to the presentation by NVIDIA's CEO Jensen Huang at the technology trade show Consumer Electronics Show (CES) a few business days before.
