Today is January 15th. Last Friday, the three major US stock indexes fell in tandem during the midday trading session, but ended the week with gains. The S&P 500 index rebounded to a two-year high at the close, while the Dow Jones index fell over 100 points. After the financial reports, UnitedHealth's stock price fell over 3%, and Tesla's decline exceeded 3%. Microsoft hit a new all-time high for three consecutive days, with its market cap briefly surpassing that of Apple. Nvidia ended a six-day rally and fell from its historical high, but still rose 11% for the week. JPMorgan Chase rose over 3% after its financial report, then turned negative, Bank of America fell over 1%, Wells Fargo & Co. fell over 3%, and Citigroup closed up 1%. Overall, for the US stock market, the Dow Jones index fell by 0.31%, the S&P 500 index rose by 0.08%, and the Nasdaq index rose by 0.02%.
The rise in the Producer Price Index (PPI) has reignited concerns about interest rate cuts, leading to a drop in US Treasury prices and a 17 basis point drop in the 2-year US bond yield, reaching an 8-month low. The US dollar index briefly declined. Last year, the Federal Reserve incurred a loss of $114.3 billion, which has made the US deficit problem more serious and unprecedented. Three signals indicate that a crisis may occur again in March. Goldman Sachs states that central banks in Europe and the United States may need to start implementing loose policies.
Bitcoin fell below $0.044 million during trading, dropping over $5000 from its two-year high since the listing day of the Bitcoin Futures Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF). Bitcoin spot ETF fell by at least 5% on the day after it was listed.
The conflict in the Red Sea escalated, causing crude oil to rise by over 4% during trading, but later giving back most of the gains...
