There's no state between ice and water, everything changed once the temperature reaches the freezing point. However, there is a state between dreaming and sober. We usually call it "investing".
Investing is a very subtle state, people get dizzy while playing big in the money game. We sometimes find it hard to tell whether a person is "high" or has just been through a great loss/ gain in the market.
