At the same time China was building a new plant for Tesla in Shanghai, VW was building a dedicated EV plant of their own. VW has also announced plans to convert at least 19 of their existing factories to 100% EV production over the next several years. How many locations does Tesla have? 2 with 2 more under construction? The established companies have a huge advantage. They have vast institutional knowledge on how to build cars, every part of the car. They have a large number of engineered and tooled parts to draw from already on the shelf and parts/new car distribution networks.
