• doctorpot1 OP Gianna_xoxo : yes once you buy an option. it is yours and it is in your account till expiration date. you can sell it for a higher price to earn money or you can exercise it too.
  e.g. you bought a call option with a strike price of $10. the share price now is $20. if you can either sell the option and earn the profit or exercise it and get the shares which also results in a profit because you bought the shares for cheaper price than what it is worth

• doctorpot1 OP TK soar : Personally, I do have many many moments of hesitation too. I had been catching falling knives on many stocks as mentioned here before: https://www.moomoo.com/community/feed/113702487392262?share_code=01LKLK. Stocks are crashing hard, bear are screaming hard, pressing the buy button is freaking hard...
  From my experience, hesitation is not necessarily a bad thing, it is a reaction that tell us that we are 100% confident about our next action, that feeling of "am I missing something?". To me having that hesitation is a good thing, it shows capacity to learn and improve.
  What it takes then is just having more experience, more research and having your own investment model. Figure out why you are hesitating. What additional data do you need before you will feel confident? Those are questions that will help you build your own investment model.   Also those missed opportunities are all learning experience, use them and learn from them. They will make you a better investor. Over time you will build your own investment model that fits you best. Not my model, not those fake guru's model, but your own model that fits your risk appetite and financial situation. The market will be here to stay for centuries, so there is no rush. Like Buffett said before, we don't need to swing at every ball that comes our way.
  The other extreme are those people who don't know anything and yet are going all in on risky trade. Those people are hard to save liao.

• doctorpot1 OP CuryNeil : The opportunity with options during the earnings season is VOLATILITY, however, the issue with options during the earnings season is also VOLATILITY. With a higher volatility, options price skyrockets and after the earning is announced, volatility crash so does the price of the options ceteris paribus.
  Thus for any delta neutral strategy like straddle to work, you need the share price to move A LOT, and I mean A LOT to counteract losing money caused by IV crush on both ends. So if you are buying a straddle, you are basically betting on VOLATILITY, or what the market calls it long volatility. You should do that if you have strong reason to believe that the market is WRONG about the magnitude of the VOLATILITY.
  Usually people will go ATM for the strike price and for the DTE it depends. If you want high risk, high reward, and take the IV crush like man go for 0 to 7 DTE. If you want a balance approach you can do 7 to 30 DTE. Otherwise, shorting volatility using Condor (iron or regular) or Butterfly (iron or regular) might be a better strategy as the only thing we can kindda guarantee is that volatility will come crashing down. This is known as IV crush. So that is one opportunity where we can short volatility using options combination such as Condor (iron or regular) or Butterfly (iron or regular) might be a a good method.

  Another thing is that we need not trade every single company stocks just because earnings is here. We could just trade on those companies that we know very very well and are optimistics about their future. This way we also could short volatility by selling Cash Secured Put with the strike price being the price you would like to purchase more of their shares at.
  However, if you have strong reason to believe that the share price will do super well, then you could consider OTM options with short expiry date for a high risk high reward method.

• doctorpot1 OP Buckwheat_bread : glad you liked it had started investing during the covid crash in 2020, because I learnt in school that crashes are the best time to buy. so when covid happened that's when I rushed to open a brokerage account with OCBC. slowly jumped over to moomoo in 2021 as OCBC transaction cost is way too high. minimum fee of 25sgd. crazyyyy
