Lockheed Martin and AT&T demonstrated the high-speed transmission of Black Hawk data to the 5G.MIL pilot network
On August 4th, Lockheed Martin and AT&T conducted a test at the Sikorsky headquarters in Stratford, Connecticut, demonstrating the secure and rapid transmission of UH-60M Black Hawk health and usage data through AT&T's 5G dedicated cellular network and Lockheed Martin's 5G MIL® multi-site pilot network.
It also demonstrated the highly secure interoperability between AT&T's 5G millimeter-wave dedicated cellular network and the 5G MIL pilot network. The AT&T 5G millimeter-wave dedicated cellular network wirelessly transmits data from the Black Hawk's Integrated Vehicle Health Management System (IVHMS) to the 5G MIL network through ground support equipment.
The data is then routed to the local Sikorsky network for processing and distributed to the 5G testing range in Waterton, Colorado through the secure Lockheed Martin 5G MIL pilot network. Currently, it takes approximately 30 minutes for the Black Hawk crew to remove the IVHMS data box from the helicopter, transport it to the operations center, and extract the data for analysis. Lockheed Martin, using the AT&T 5G dedicated cellular technology, has reduced the required time, including removing the ammunition can, to less than 5 minutes.
