A recent $Amazon (AMZN.US)$ test of a $Rivian Automotive (RIVN.US)$ electric van showed that the battery's performance is below the EV startup's claims.
According to the report, the battery drained 40% faster than usual if the van's heating or cooling was on. Rivian said in its prospectus that the all-electric delivery vans would have a range between 120 miles and 150 miles, depending on size.
Rivian shares fell 8.2% to 118.11 on Monday. RIVN stock rose 67% in the first few days after its IPO, to 129.95. But shares closed down 1% last week after a wild ride.
Among other EV stocks, China-based $XPeng (XPEV.US)$ edged up 1.1% after briefing reclaiming a buy range intraday. $NIO Inc (NIO.US)$surged 7.3%, while $Li Auto (LI.US)$ advanced 1.9%.
Among U.S. automakers, $Lucid Group (LCID.US)$ reversed opening gains and dropped 8.2%, $General Motors (GM.US)$ rose 3.7% and Ford (F) was up 5.4%. U.S.-traded shares of Germany's $VOLKSWAGEN A G (VWAGY.US)$ dipped 0.4%.

In fact, if we look at our metrics across the board, they have improved not only year on year, but also quarter-on-quarter. So going forward, we're looking to sustain our existing strong user base in the existing markets and explore new growth opportunities in markets that we haven't deeply penetrated especially with the launch of Free Fire MAX and new features. We are further focused on building out our strong IP and platform.
Free Fire MAX was launched in late September. So could you give us some insights on user engagement? How is that option and time spent? How different is it from Free Fire? And how does it impact your 2022 outlook?
In terms of Free Fire MAX, it is still at very early stage. We already see some positive and encouraging signs within our expectation of deeper engagement with users who have higher spec phones and they can enjoy higher resolution pictures and more features, etc. And also within Free Fire MAX, we have introduced some features such as Craftland, which allows people to add a map and customize it and make it available for other users. This is our initial test in creating more user generation, content tools for our community engagement, and bringing more creativity from our communities into the game itself. So we are very much looking forward to the fourth quarter and ahead to continue to grow this game.
You talked about normalization post COVID, could you take us through the range of possible outcomes as we come out of COVID?
On the one hand, the step-up in digitalization in our markets, the forming of user behavior to shop online and also sell things from online by more of the especially the small businesses and even the brands are permanent here to stay. Meanwhile, we haven't seen any particular economies being so deeply or permanently impacted by COVID that there is clearly an impact on consumption. And at least from our perspective as a market leader, we continue to grow in our market leadership, especially in our markets, which are generally high-growth markets with low e-commerce penetration, we continue to see long-term growth potential. So on that front, we are quite optimistic about the long-term growth potential of e-commerce.
Can you elaborate what is the target you wanted to achieve, especially from the European countries? What kind of KPI that you will monitor to assess that your progress is well achieved and to potentially to evaluate to invest more?
We believe that we have gained a deep operational experience in operating in different markets as well as outstanding of our business model focusing on mobile native, social commerce driven and long-tail high diverse categories. However, being humble is one of our core values. Hopefully, our entrance could add value to the markets and see potential new growth areas that could also further promote the local e-commerce growth together with our peers. Nov 15 $JPMorgan (JPM.US)$ has sued $Tesla (TSLA.US)$ for $162.2 million, accusing Elon Musk's electric car company of "flagrantly" breaching a contract the two corporate giants agreed in 2014 relating to warrants Tesla sold to the bank.
Tesla in 2014 sold warrants to JPMorgan that would pay off if their "strike" price was below Tesla's share price when the warrants expired in June and July 2021.
Musk's Aug 7, 2018 tweet that he might take Tesla private at $420 per share and had "funding secured," and his subsequent announcement 17 days later that he was abandoning the plan, created significant volatility in the share price, the bank said.
On both occasions, JPMorgan adjusted the strike price "to maintain the same fair market value" as prior to the tweets.
Tesla's share price rose approximately 10-fold by the time the warrants expired this year, and JPMorgan said this required Tesla under its contract to hand over shares of its stock or cash. The bank said Tesla's failure to do that amounted to a default.

Rivian is going public on Wednesday, Nov.10th

$Rivian Automotive (RIVN.US)$ , the electric vehicle maker backed by $Amazon (AMZN.US)$ and $Ford Motor (F.US)$ , priced its IPO on Tuesday at $78 a share. The deal values Rivian at $66.5 billion.
Rivian is already worth almost as much as Ford ($79 billion) and General Motors ($85 billion). That’s all before the company has even started generating real revenue. $Lucid Group (LCID.US)$ is worth $72.5 billion even though the company just began production of its first cars. $Nikola (NKLA.US)$ ’s market cap was higher than Ford’s at one point last year before it's been accused to be a lie.
While Rivian is still effectively pre-revenue, the company said in its prospectus that it has a backlog of 55,400 pre-orders for its R1T and R1S electric vehicles. The company said it expects to fill those orders by the end of 2023. Additionally, $Amazon (AMZN.US)$ has ordered 100,000 vehicles to be delivered by Rivian by 2030, and the companies plan to have 10,000 new Rivian-Amazon delivery vehicles on the road as early as next year.
Even though Rivian and Lucid have delivered 0 vehicles to their customers. Investors are continuously trying to hop on "the next Tesla" at the early stage.
