$The Scotts Miracle (SMG.US)$
My investment journey. Highlights of US stock trading day 23.
My Invitae stocks dipped 21.85% after missing earnings and revenue estimates. In my opinion, the Q3 performance wasn’t bad; revenue growth year on year was 66.4%. Wall St always overreacts anyway. On the other hand, my SMG stocks are doing just fine. Since cannabis is an obviously rapidly growing industry, most cannabis stocks are expensive. When I came across SMG, I found it to be significantly undervalued. Although not a direct cannabis play, it has a core consumer business providing steady cashflow to grow its Hawthrone segment. And that segment in Q3 has grown 48% year on year.

My investment journey. Highlights of US stock trading day 22:
My PENN stocks just can’t catch a break. First the earnings miss and the Portnoy story, then today’s news. I was more than a little concerned when Barstool sports was not on the list of sports-betting operators approved for New York mobile and phone sports betting. While New York should potentially be one of the biggest markets among US states, the New York revenue for these new approved licenses w...

$Discovery-A (DISCA.US)$
My investment journey. Highlights of US stock trading day 21:
Closed my Tapestry and Wynn Resorts positions and made a little profit.
Discovery and WarnerMedia’s proposed merger might create another streaming giant at least as big as Netflix and Disney+.
I’m keeping an eye on Moderna. It is an awesome stock to add to my portfolio. I will set an alert for 173. Although I highly doubt that price will happen.

My investment journey. Highlights of US stock trading day 20:
My PENN shares took a dive today. But I’m taking it in stride. The Q3 earnings miss and Portnoy story do not really dim much of my optimism in the company. The main takeaway I’m interested in is the 11% revenue growth year on year. That is solid growth amid a less than 2 year foray into the sportsbook business via a partnership with Barstool.
Another highlight. I have always known that Illumina dominates the genome-sequencing industry. The explosive growth in genomics application for pharmaceutical and therapeutics development has fuel stellar returns for Illumina shareholders. The new frontier however, is the long-read methodology that PacBio improved and deploys. PacBio’s innovations will challange Illumina’s short-read sequencing. There is more than enough growth in the industry for these two different sequencing methodologies but I suspect that PacBio’s growth will outpace Illumina’s.

$Sunrun (RUN.US)$
My investment journey. Highlight of US stock trading day 19:
Reached a milestone today. First profit-taking on my US stocks. Closed my position on Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals. Made 22.5% gross. My portfolio also recovered from the beating the day before.
My two cents worth on renewables. I’m not 100% certain that solar is the best bet going forward but the trend on renewables growth is not going to reverse. Oil will still have a part to play in the future but the wane of its influence on world economy is inevitable.

My investment journey: Highlight of US stocks trading day 18:
Spend most of the trading day watching my Chegg stock go to the toilet. Since I bought it at 61, looks like it is going to be hanging around in my portfolio for quite a while. As an educator by profession, I find Chegg to be a good company that provides a good product on a technologically driven platform. Meanwhile I take solace in that my solar energy positions offset some of bloodbath yesterday. Only 3.5% of US homes have solar and Sunrun is the industry leader in residential solar energy systems.

My investment journey: Highlight of US stocks trading day 17:
When I started building my portfolio, I decided that solar energy stocks cannot be excluded for obvious growth reasons. While searching for good solar energy companies, I came across Shoals. While this company is not a pure nor direct solar energy play, it has pros. Its products and solutions are also deployable in EV charging systems, another market that should see impressive growth. 2 good industry plays in 1 company. Another plus is that Shoals’ products are IP protected. This company is technologically driven and forward thinking.
