China’s key EV player NIO Inc. $NIO Inc (NIO.US)$ grabbed attention with its much-awaited annual NIO Day Event held in Suzhou in China on Dec 18, 2021, to shape the future of transportation.
Meanwhile, in an attempt to cash in on the increasing investors’ appetite for EV makers, U.S. iconic motorcycle maker Harley-Davidson HOG announced plans to make its e-bike unit LiveWire public via a SPAC merger.
EV startup Rivian Automotive $Rivian Automotive (RIVN.US)$ released third-quarter 2021 results, which marked the company’s first quarterly release since it went public last month. U.S. auto giant General Motors GM also made it to the top stories of the week as its EV600 light commercial vehicle and GMC Hummer e-pickup made way to customers for first deliveries.

Even Cathie Woods, one of the most successful fund managers, is down YTD. Does that mean she’s bad compared to others ? Investing is a marathon. Just because Nio is underperforming this year doesn’t mean it won’t outperform in the coming years. Still strong hope with all the good news this company has. $NIO Inc (NIO.US)$ recently announced a new strategic partnership with energy giant  $SHELL PLC (RYDAF.US)$ that will aid that expansion in Europe, as well as growth in its domestic Chinese market. Nio and Shell plan to construct and operate battery charging and swapping stations in both China and Europe. The companies will begin to install pilot stations in Europe next year, and will add 100 battery swapping stations in China by 2025. Nio offers a battery-as-a-service swapping option for customers that lowers the upfront cost of the vehicle, and provides Nio with ongoing subscription revenue.
