The electricity cost for commercial businesses in the second half of the year has slightly decreased, and the state-owned energy company (Guoneng) has stated that it will have no impact on finances.
$TENAGA (5347.MY)$ Today, the country's energy sector welcomed the cost pass-through mechanism for the second half of the year (ICPT). From July 1st to December 31st, the residential electricity rates in the peninsula will remain unchanged, while the ICPT surcharge for commercial and industrial users will be reduced by 1 cent per kilowatt-hour.
The Ministry of Energy and Water Affairs (PETRA) recently announced that the government has decided to continue implementing ICPT from July 1st to December 31st this year.
This is in response to the additional generation costs caused by higher fuel prices during the period from January 1st to June 30th of this year.
So far, the government has implemented 20 cycles of the ICPT since its introduction in 2015.
Based on this, the government will allocate 2.192 billion ringgit as targeted electricity subsidies for the second half of the year.
Nevertheless, the national energy company stated that this will not have any impact on its business operations and finances.
It is worth noting that the shares of the national energy company experienced a surge in the first half of the year, driven by the datacenter theme, reaching a 52-week high of 14.28 ringgit on June 18th.
Last week, State Power Corp. experienced a slight pullback due to market arbitrage, but it seems to have regained upward momentum on the first trading day of the second half of the year.
