June 30 marks the middle of the trading year for many mooers, but not for me. You see, I only became a mooer less than 5 months ago. I signed up, got my free Intel share, and ventured into a world I never knew existed.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not new to investing. I have been trading for many years, way before Moomoo even existed. But I used traditional brokerages, those with online platforms that traders log in to, enter their orders, then log out. Th...

Stock prices can be highly volatile during the earnings season. Some traders take positions before the results are released, hoping to reap the gains if the earnings reports prove them right.
I know of another activity that shares the same modus operandi, except that the participants are called gamblers instead of traders.
Unless there is an amazing investment opportunity, or some other compelling reasons to trade, I would prefer to wait for the results to be released and the hype...

The Fed is like a moving average.
Like the lagging indicator that responds to historical prices, the Fed reacts to historical data. Though the inflation rate is declining, it is still above the Fed's target rate, so the Fed needs to raise the interest rate. However, the recent bank failures signal that the rate may be a tad too high.
The market thinks that the Fed will raise the interest rate by 25bp. I concur with the market sentiment. This will probably be the last rate hike, tho...

All traders should have a trading plan. Those who do not are either new to trading, or extremely lucky (or rich) to have survived so long in the trading arena.
A trading plan simplifies one's trading decisions, since entries and exits would have been thought out beforehand. I used to set a high target price at which to sell my stocks. If the price dropped, I would buy more. If the price dropped further, I bought even more. Thou shalt not sell, unless a profit t...

How do I choose the fund which is most likely to outperform the other four in two weeks? Seriously, I don't know. But I like Threadneedle for its value stocks.
I don't think bonds and real estate are going to move much in 2 weeks, and tech stocks are already rather pricey, so that leaves me with the value-focused fund. Hopefully within two weeks, the market can realise the value of the stocks Threadneedle picked.

Revenues were aided by post-pandemic business and consumer spending, while earnings were hurt by inflationary costs and higher interest rates.
Despite the challenges, $Futu Holdings Ltd (FUTU.US)$ managed to report a decent set of Q4 and full year results. I am glad they did, for obvious reasons. I use Moomoo to trade, so when Futu does well, I have more confidence in their trading platform and the team behind it.

A friend once told me that investing in Singapore stocks was boring, that it was easier to make money in the US market. My friend was right.
The price of Nvidia was $272 at end March '22, $121 at end September '22, and $277 at end March '23. Nvidia was not the only US stock to see price declines of 50% in half a year, and 100% increases in the other half. Barring penny stocks or distressed companies, it is very rare for Singapore stocks ...

Silvergate, SVB, Signature, Credit Suisse. What do these banks have in common?
Answer: All of them have the letter 'S' in their names.
March 2023: Prices of bank shares 's'ank and presented a buying opportunity. With the central banks stepping in to calm the markets, I had expected the prices of the bigger banks to stabilise and hopefully recover. Being more conservative, I opted to invest in $Bank of America (BAC.US)$ (a bigger bank without the letter 'S' in its name),...

It is an exhilarating thought - that one can become a shareholder when one buys a company's shares. At least, that was how I felt when I bought my first shares a long time ago, in a now-delisted company. The price was 60 cents a share and I bought a thousand shares for $600. I had become a shareholder!
But does being a shareholder mean that I have some control over the company's management? No, unless I am a substantial shareholder, like Warren Buff...

February is not a good month for Intel. Hopefully, Intel will do better in March. Anyway, this is the free share I got when I signed up for my Moomoo account, so I will just hold on to it till year 2123, or until the share price drops to zero.
