Recently received some interesting questions from friends: why have there been few short-term trades in the US stock market that can bring multiple returns?

I have a ten-year history of investing in US stocks, and I have been fully focusing on a mix of long and short positions since 2020. I started writing Threads in early 2024, and many friends who saw my posts began between June and December 2024.
I emphasize a mix of long and short positions. In the second quarter of 2022-2024, both are 70%-80% long and 20%-30% short, until the third quarter of 2024, which is September. Seeing a significant increase in inflow of funds into US stocks, I reduced the long positions to 50% and increased the short positions to 50%.
As a result, the total profit from short-term trading for the entire year of 2024 reached 245%.
200% of the profit comes from the months of October and December, with Quantum and Space & Drone sectors accounting for 90% of the profit; the profit from January to September 2024 is not as good as the final 2 months profit, which is the essence of short-term trading; we need to be hunters, identifying trends and timing to enter the market before making a move, instead of entering and exiting aimlessly every day.
