At it's core, AI is just statistics on steroids. It can't create, it has no intent, and if you've ever tried to use it for anything nontrivial, where it hasn't been specifically optimized for the use case, it misses the mark in subtle ways, that need an experienced human to correct. the fact that it's probabilistic makes it useless for anything safety critical, and an optimised, deterministic, algorithmic solution is vastly superior for most tasks than a ginormous statistical model trained on the contents of the reddit.

CUDA and dedicated tensor cores are a much later development, and I doubt much of their revenue comes from selling things that process graphics any more. I'd argue that they ceased to be GPUs the second you couldn't blog a monitor into them.

But what's worse for NVDA is if they open source a more efficient model, then everyone will adopt the same technique, people can stop buying $250,000 a unit GPUs, whilst still advancing AI research
