Mitsui & Co., Ltd. collaborates with Canadian companies to recycle mining tires
Mitsui & Co., Ltd. announced on 9/13 that it had made a basic agreement with Caltire, a major Canadian tire service provider, to jointly work on the recycling business of large tires for mining.
It is said that this is the first commercial plant in the industry to recycle waste tires for mining into carbon black, oil, and steel using pyrolysis treatment technology. Carbon black can be reused as a raw material for tires and industrial rubber products, and oil and steel can be reused for refining applications and as scrap materials.
The recycling plant operated by Caltire in Chile will be commercialized in collaboration with Mitsui & Co., and commercial operation will begin in January 2023.
Furthermore, both companies plan to expand the recycling business of waste tires for mining globally, and will consider business in North America, South America, Australia, and Africa in the future.
