Investing in stocks for the long term, has been the most winning strategy over the years in the stock market. Of course not every stock is a winner, and it is important to do proper research, and due diligence, to find the companies that you have the most conviction in. Personally I choose stocks, for the long term, by visualizing what direction the future is heading in, over the next 10 plus years. Once I determine what sectors I believe will grow the most, I find companies that are solid, and have a concrete plan moving in that direction. Leaders, innovators, and a good team with direction can benefit the most. Don't forget about fundamentals. Are they making money, and managing their money profitably? Are they growing, and able to grow further? I believe space exploration, digital technology, and environmental friendly companies are the future. So now I research who is gonna be in the game for the long haul. Add money into positions, over time, and sleep easier at night knowing you are invested in a company that is in it for the long haul. The market volatility is easier to handle, if you know you are invested in what you believe in. It's a marathon, not a sprint, in the wellbeing of long term investing.

alicia_z : Agreed. Dollar cost averaging is my go to strategy. Timing the market is near impossible. Furthermore, many market phenomenon that relies on certain perceived rise or fall in the market such as “sell in May and go away” have largely been almost non existent in recent years due to more knowledgeable investors and investment strategies. Many of these phenomenon have already been priced into the market well beforehand as investors learn the underlying reason for these phenomenon. As information gets more freely available, we have to adjust our strategies accordingly.strike any
