So, in the stock market everyone can make money if you put your time and effort in learning how the market works. If it’s by day trading, short-term trading, options trading or take the route of long-term investing, etc. However, there’re people that doesn’t have the time, patience, and neck for dealing with emotions the comes with day/short term trading. Therefore, they chose to invest in long term as they won’t have to worry about the stock price fluctuation in short term, and doesn’t have to deal with emotions, etc that comes with short term trading. However, the definition of long term investing depends on each individual as some say long term can be 6 months to a year, other say long term can be for 5-10 years, and some say they will hold until retirement. Personally for me long term investing is 5-10years timeframe.
My reason for long term investing:
I do day/short term trading, options trading and long term investing. The deciding factor for me when investing long term are: How the company is doing right now?(checking their balance sheets, doing research on the company). Will they be here in coming years? How will they perform in the next 5-10 year+? What is their potentials and competitors? etc. If all that is checked then I will start my position to hold and add more position as the time progress and on a potential short term stock price fluctuation for next 5-10years and maybe more as the year goes on. Also, time to time monitor on the performance of the company.
