The launch took place at 4 pm CST (6 am on November 20th Beijing time) at the interstellar base in Boca Chica, Texas, USA. After the launch, the Super Heavy booster successfully delivered the Starship to its intended orbit. However, the planned attempt to capture the booster with the 'Mechazilla' robotic arm was canceled four minutes into the flight for undisclosed reasons, and the booster ultimately splashed down in the Gulf of Mexico. The Starship completed a near-Earth orbit flight and landed in a controlled manner in the Indian Ocean region.
The main objectives of this test included verifying the Starship's engine ignition capabilities in orbit and the performance of the heat shield system. Despite the unsuccessful booster capture attempt, the overall test is still seen as an important step towards a fully reusable rocket system. SpaceX aims to reduce the costs of future space missions through these tests and pave the way for future missions to the moon and Mars.
