imaginative Camel_38 OP 86866 : you're completely missing the point I was making by posting this. when shorts pile on a stock they are expecting a bearish scenario. when shorts return shares they don't believe the price will go down. they wait till the price finds a top then pile back in on the way down. when shorts exit positions they expect a bullish scenario. so yes. by them returning the shares I expect this stock to go up today. do shorts ultimately affect price? yes they do! they are smart. they will buy a shit ton of shares, then dump those shares to make the price drop and as it's dropping they will short it on top of that to drive it down more. also peeps that have stop losses set will help that.
