Shares of $Alibaba(BABA.US)$ and $Baidu(BIDU.US)$ traded slightly higher in Hong Kong on Monday, while $JD.com(JD.US)$ , $Tencent(TCEHY.US)$ , $Li Auto(LI.US)$ and $XPeng(XPEV.US)$ slumped.
What’s Moving: Shares of Alibaba and Baidu traded about 1% higher each in Hong Kong at the time of writing, while JD.Com, Tencent, Li Auto and Xpeng traded lower, in a range between 1% and 3%. Chinese EV startup $NIO Inc(NIO.US)$ unveiled a mid-size sedan named ET5 at its annual Nio Day event on Saturday. The new vehicle is seen as a competitor to $Tesla(TSLA.US)$ Model 3 sedan, which is the Elon Musk-led company’s best-selling car globally. Hong Kong’s benchmark Hang Seng Index opened lower on Monday and was down almost 1% at the time of writing. The index closed 1.2% lower on Friday amid worries about rising U.S.-China tensions after the U.S. government imposed new sanctions on Chinese tech companies.
Why Is It Moving? The Hang Seng Index extended losses even as the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) cut its benchmark lending rate for the first time in almost two years on Monday.
The one-year loan prime rate (LPR) was reduced from 3.85% to 3.8% as part of the central bank’s efforts to support the Chinese economy, which is struggling from muted consumer spending and a slump in the property sector.
Worries about the spread of the Omicron coronavirus variant around the world also weighed on the market.
Shares of Chinese companies closed mostly lower in U.S. trading on Friday after the major averages in the U.S. ended lower as investors grappled with the reality of tighter monetary policy by the Federal Reserve.

I was questioning if Chinese stocks are starting to move inversely as compared to the US stocks... My readers and viewers of youtube channel know that I have repeatedly mentioned about the Renminbi internationalisation as well as what are the lessons that we can learn from the stock market crash in Chinese markets back in 2015/2016.
Now Nasdaq 100 are showing slight signs of fatigue with pull-back from 16300 to around 15,650.. As for the Dow futures, it has fallen back down after hitting 36,000 with a recent low of 33,700... Now its back up as well as S&P futures up. My thesis right now is if US stocks are to fall further, there may be a chance for Chinese stocks to go back up slightly or at least hold. Why? For the long only funds and equity funds, which need its portfolio to be almost 100% in equity, they have to find something to buy isnt it?
As long as their investment mandate is a global mandate equity portfolio, then any sharp fall in US tech stocks or other brick and mortar US stocks, i.e. retail, hotel, airline, etc may lead to a stabilisation of Chinese stocks in US. We shall see if my hypothesis is right.
But you have to bear in mind that I dont have an algorithm model or supercomputer to test all datapoints.

I was as excited as most Singaporeans on this app when our home-grown brand got listed. But when I deep-dive into the company, I will likely not invest in it, at least for the short term.
Grab’s market in the South East Asia definitely has growth potential i.e. people are getting affluent, there’s an increase in digital growth etc. However, do note that Grab faces intense competition and challenges in all its businesses/services (ride-hailing, food delivery and financial services). At the moment, I don’t see very strong Moat displayed by them yet - similar to $Uber Technologies(UBER.US)$ 
1. Ride hailing - doesn’t seem like they are going to expand to countries outside South East Asia region. And this spells limited growth, at least for the short term. Furthermore, this area of business is badly impacted by the pandemic. Taxi drivers are suffering (it’s a real problem on the ground)
2. Food delivery - sales in this area did “rocket” as everyone started working from home since 2020. But Singapore, and a few other SEA countries, are too small. There is a limit to how much they can earn in this segment. Throw in Foodpanda, Deliveroo etc, their market shares will be further capped. Personally, I don’t think there is brand loyalty when it comes to food deliveries. I used Grab most of the time, but I also used the other two when there are discounts/ vouchers etc.
3. Financial services - there are so many financial institutions around. It’s going to be tough competing against the banks, and even giants like Apple $Apple(AAPL.US)$ and Google $Alphabet-A(GOOGL.US)$ for their payments services. Once again, throw in Favpay, Singtel’s Dash $Singtel(Z74.SG)$  Alipay $Alibaba(BABA.US)$ etc etc. How much pie / market shares can they capture?
Overall, the company’s financial situation isn’t fantastic. Their revenue did grow YOY, but they are not profitable yet. Things may change in 3 to 5 years’ time (expansion by the company, covid has gone etc). But for the short term, I don’t think I would invest my money in them. The dollars can be better invested into other stocks with higher growth. Would suggest to enter only when the coast is clear. Meantime, I will just remain as their consumer using their services.
