MitchBrannon OP : risk mitigation I've been using is: identifying a tightening range in a market leader for the day, ideally super high volume and always above 1B market cap.
set order at or slightly above bottom of intraday range, ideally with a VCP or cup and handle on 15m or 30m. good news helps but technicals and crazy volume can carry a trade if you get in at the bottom of a settling range.
then you set your stop like a bit below the range because that's a downtrend
