okay, maybe not deposit insurance but some other way to insure Bitcoin. what if you're committing crime like drug trade, trafficking, laundering, etc. and your Bitcoin is stolen? if insurance paid out, the company would be incriminated for abetting the activity. undoubtedly regulation would be made relating to Bitcoin insurance - insurance is already highly regulated.
either way, to insure Bitcoin as an insurance company you'll have to act as some form or authority or regulator. companies make money by designing rules and evaluating risks and setting insurance premiums accordingly. you won't want to insure someone that's at high risk of making a claim because you'll lose money, so maybe you'll charge them more premium or not offer them coverage. how does the company determine that? oh, rules! you become the regulatory entity in this regard.
no matter how you look at it, asking for Bitcoin insurance is asking for regulation. the whole point is to have a decentralized and private global currency , and this is undermined by regulation. your idea is anticrypto
