What is CPI?
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is a measure that examines the weighted average of prices of a basket of consumer goods and services, such as transportation, food, and medical care.
Inflation is the decline of a given currency's purchasing power over time; or, alternatively, a general rise in prices. So CPI is the most widely used measure of inflation.
What happened recently?
U.S. consumer prices overall rose 0.4% in September, pushing the y-o-y gain to 5.4%. CPI increased slightly more than expected in September as food and energy price rises offset declines in used cars .
"Food and energy are more variable, but that's where the problem is," said Bob Doll, chief investment officer at Crossmark Global Investments. " Hopefully, we start solving our supply shortage problem.”
Recently, the International Monetary Fund warned that the Fed and its global peers should be preparing contingency plans should inflation prove persistent. That would mean raising interest rates sooner than expected to control the price gains.

Last time we talked about what CPI is, today we'll talk about its perfect partner——PPI.
1. What is PPI?
The Producer Price Index (PPI) is used to measure commodity prices, which represents the average price of goods purchased by manufacturers.
2. Why PPI is CPI's perfect partner?
In general, PPI measures the average price of upstream market, and CPI represents average price of downstream markets.
When the upstream price increases, the downstream market will receive increased signs, and the price gap between the two markets can be filled with cost-shifting.
For example, if lumber's price increases, the price of wooden stools will increase.
Therefore, investors can use PPI to predict CPI. This is why they are perfect partners.
Don't read this:What is CPI?
3. What is the PPI for?
PPI can measure the inflation rate experienced by manufacturers.
If PPI is higher than expected, this means the inflation risk is rising from manufacturers.
The Fed may increase the interest rates based on an increasing PPI, which results in bullish on the U.S. dollar.

$Alibaba (BABA.US)$ This year double 11 should see record breaking sales due to the pent up buying power of the Chinese and Asian consumers. Just hold it thru November and it should see them going above 190. I just top up a little on dip.

$Meta Platforms (FB.US)$ plans to change its company name next week to reflect its focus on metaverse. But why would a famous company change its name suddenly? How about replacing the CEO? $Apple (AAPL.US)$ would never change its name to Banana, right?
I guess Facebook wants to escape from its recent reputational damage. I still remember its hours-long outage, scrutiny from Congress and criticism from the public. These can't be fixed by a name change. I would definitely put my money into other mega-cap tech stocks like Apple, $Microsoft (MSFT.US)$, $Amazon (AMZN.US)$ and $Alphabet-A (GOOGL.US)$ rather than Facebook!
But anyway, how would you rename Facebook if you were Zuckerberg? Are you positive about Facebook and why?

Cathie Wood's tech-focused $ARK Innovation ETF (ARKK.US)$ gained more than 150% in 2020. How crazy! You could never find another fund generating similar returns in one year!
But to be honest, I really don't know if she's a good fund manager. ARKK lost about 4% in 2021 and Cathie Wood seems to have a hard time. However, Buffett's value investing fund $Berkshire Hathaway-A (BRK.A.US)$ gained 23% this year and has generated positive returns for 6 consecutive years.
I think Cathie Wood was just lucky enough to catch the tech ride, or $Tesla (TSLA.US)$'s ride, last year.
Warren Buffett vs. Cathie Wood, who's the true guru?
Are you a value investor like Buffett? Are you a tech lover like Cathie Wood?

The Reddit IPO could come early next year with a $15 billion valuation, Insider previously reported. In August, the site earned a $10 billion valuation from a private fundraise with Fidelity Investments.
Reddit is vying for a spot in the meme stock leagues as it seeks to attract its own users - the same ones who have driven $GameStop (GME.US)$ and $AMC Entertainment (AMC.US)$ to record highs - to its initial public offering.
I want our users to be shareholders, and I want our shareholders to be users."
—— CEO Steve Huffman said.
On Reddit, users are anonymous and band together on various so-called subreddits to discuss topics of interest. The site attracted millions of users to one subreddit alone during the COVID-19 pandemic: r/wallstreetbets.
On the thread, an army of retail traders joined together to drive massive rallies in shares of struggling companies, including GameStop, AMC, and $BlackBerry (BB.US)$, among others, in January. Other retail investing threads have since proliferated like as r/Superstonk and r/amcstock, which have 653,000 and 435,000 users, respectively.
Mooers, are you a Reddit user and would you invest in Reddit?
