$Tesla (TSLA.US)$ $Twitter (Delisted) (TWTR.US)$ Musk was probably  going to sell  anyway. He has a $15 Billion tax bill coming  up and as he says, "I have no money, only stock".
Musk was awarded options in 2012 as part of a compensation plan.
Because he doesn’t take a salary or cash bonus, his wealth comes from stock awards and the gains in Tesla’s share price. The 2012 award was for 22.8 Million shares at a strike price of $6.24 per share.
Tesla shares closed at $1,222.09 on Friday, meaning his profit on the shares total just under $28 billion.
If I could acquire Tesla stock at $6.24 a share, and sell at its current  price  of  $1,222, I  would be thrilled to pay the tax.
Of course, I would have to tighten my belt a  bit being that after paying the tax, I would "only" have $13 Billion  left.
P.S.  In March 2018, Tesla’s board of directors granted him a  “CEO Performance Award” of 101.3 million stock options.
Lets see, 101.3 million x $1,222 =???
To top that  off, last month, in a 10 day period, the value  his stock holdings went UP over  $40 billion.
