BlackBerry Sells Legacy Patents for $600M to Catapult IP Innovations
$黑莓 (BB.US)$ . said Monday that it will sell virtually all of its non-core patent assets to U.S.-based special purpose vehicle Catapult IP Innovations Inc. for $600 million.
The Canadian software company it will receive a license back to the patents being sold which relate primarily to mobile devices, messaging and wireless networking.
It said that patents that are essential to its current core business operations, which is now in cybersecurity, are excluded from the transaction and its current customers won't be affected.
