During a recession it's best to choose companies with low debt as the rapid growing companies with high debts will suffer when growth in profits is no longer able to keep up with interest payments
if the companies have debts make sure the debts are long term debts as it's harder to borrow money during a recession
choose companies that are needed regardless of economic cycles. luxury companies may or may not suffer during a recession but I would avoid them anyway
