The Tokyo Olympics prompted the latest furor over transgender participation in women’s sports. It came when New Zealand named a transgender woman to its weightlifting team. This athlete’s participation raises questions far beyond this Olympics or that particular sport. Why have womens sports? The only way for there to be equality in a society that allows transgenders to compete in sports is too make the participation all encompassing. This will give all sports equality of fairness. Gender or race wont matter if you are the best at a particular sport then you will beat out all competition.
But this has been tried in the workforce and was protested and calls of discrimination were proclaimed. So affirmative action was declared. Which meant colleges and businesses couldnt enroll or hire the best, brightest and most qualified, instead they had to hire and enroll evenly based on race and sex. The irony is that is discrimination so its bound to fail. The problem with all of this, is the fact that the ones complaining and protesting make up less than 2% of the population. Everyone knows you do whats best for the greater good. Individuals cant make the rules or laws, it has to be the group altogether. And that can only be accomplished by applying the simplest ones. How to Avoid Wash Sales
While the wash sale rule has most often been seen for individual securities such as stocks and bonds, it does come into play with mutual funds as well.
If a security is sold at a loss, investors may want to write that loss off against capital gains and possibly a small portion of ordinary income.
However, capital losses may not be used to offset gains or income if the investor sells a security at a loss and purchases the same or a substantially identical security within 30 days before or after the trade date.
The sale at a loss and the repurchase within this period is a wash sale.
The rule disallows the loss or tax benefit from selling a security and repurchasing the security (or one substantially identical to it) in this manner.
The term substantially identical refers to any other security with the same investment performance likelihood as the one being sold.
Examples are:
\- securities convertible into the one being sold,
\- warrants to purchase the security being sold,
\- rights to purchase the security being sold, and
\- call options to purchase the security being sold.
