Possible Bearish Signals With AGCO Insiders Disposing Stock
Possible Bearish Signals With AGCO Insiders Disposing Stock
Over the past year, many AGCO Corporation (NYSE:AGCO) insiders sold a significant stake in the company which may have piqued investors' interest. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying versus if they selling is usually more beneficial, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, if numerous insiders are selling, shareholders should investigate more.
While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At AGCO
The Senior Vice President of Customer Experience, Robert Crain, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$1.7m worth of shares at a price of US$133 each. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. The good news is that this large sale was at well above current price of US$113. So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price.

Insider Ownership
Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Insiders own 0.7% of AGCO shares, worth about US$60m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
