Rapid7 President & COO Andrew Burton Sells 32% Of Holding
Some Rapid7, Inc. (NASDAQ:RPD) shareholders may be a little concerned to see that the President & COO, Andrew Burton, recently sold a substantial US$2.0m worth of stock at a price of US$52.47 per share. That sale reduced their total holding by 32% which is hardly insignificant, but far from the worst we've seen.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Rapid7
Notably, that recent sale by Andrew Burton is the biggest insider sale of Rapid7 shares that we've seen in the last year. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of US$52.15. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it's not too bad (but it's still not a positive).
Over the last year we saw more insider selling of Rapid7 shares, than buying. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. Insider Ownership
For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Insiders own 1.6% of Rapid7 shares, worth about US$51m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
